 BOOK REVIEW

The book I chose for this project is called 30 days of night. The book is also based on my favorite movie. The author of the book is Tim Lebbon. I chose this book because of my fascination with vampires and how they create chaos.  I decided to get this because of the intriguing cover and I saw the movie before so I wanted too see if the book was even better.

The main characters name is Eben Olsen. The story takes place in a little town called barrow Alaska which is the northernmost town in the USA. Every year in December till January the sun goes away and it leaves the town for 30 days of night. All communication is cut off for hundreds of miles and the closest airport is shut down for that period of time.  A group of vampires found this town and have a whole feast on everyone. Almost everyone died. These vampires are different than most. There teeth aren't fangs, but in fact shark like. There eyes are pitch black and they have speed and strength. They also are very vicious and don't give mercy. They kill anyone in there way. So basically for 30 days… the vampires will never stop until the sun comes up.

My favorite quote was by a prisoner in barrows prison. He was half human half vampire. The vampires sent him to spy first.  He way lying down in the cell and he said "board the windows, lock the doors, try to hide… their coming…" Eben then said "they?.. Who are they..." and then the lights in the cell switch off.

My rating system is 1 through 10. 1 is super poor and 10 is amazing. I rated this book an 8 and a half out of the system.  It had some strange parts such as a polar bear wandering into town and then the vampires kill it. But otherwise than that the book was superb.

I would recommend this book to twelve year olds and up. This book is a little scary and is very intense. It does have many bad words and has some graphic sayings. And graphic pictures. But I say this book is very good and many scary movie lovers would enjoy this very much.

The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins

For my book report I read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I thought The Hunger Games was so amazing because it had so much detail and it was filled with action and drama. It is about this girl Katniss who lives in District 12 with her mother and her little sister Prim. And her family is very poor and her and her friend Gale go out hunting so Katniss can feed her family. And every year for all the 23 districts, they do an even called the Hunger Games. This is where they pick a boy and a girl from each district and they take them to an arena and they have to survive in the middle of basically nowhere and they also basically have to kill everyone to win. So whoever is the last one living wins and gets to go back to their district. In district 12 though they have only had one winner from along time ago named Haymitch who pretty much helped them get prepared for the games. Though at the reaping which is where they pick the people's names for the Hunger Games, Prim, Katniss's 12 year old sister, gets picked which leaves Katniss in total shock. Unexpectedly, Katniss runs up the stage and volunteers to switch with Prim. Though Prim still doesn't want her to go but Katniss wants to do it for her sister. But then, they had to pick the boy, and the boy who got picked was Peeta, the last one who came up to Katniss's mind. She kept on thinking to herself, "Why Peeta!? Why him?" This was because when Katniss's family was starving to death, and Peeta didn't even know her, he gave her a piece of bread. And the only time they have seen eachother was at school. Though now Katniss was worried that she had to owe him something now. It gets very suspenseful wondering what their relationship will be like at the games. When they start heading for the training place, they are offered with tons of food, which leaves Katniss very happy unlike at District 12 where they have minimum offerings of food. Then after all the training they had done, they had to show the Career Tributes how good they were and they were going to announce in TV their scores. Katniss was the last one to go, after Peeta, though when she went she thought she ruined the whole thing because she though the career tributes were paying more attention to the food they had. So then she aimed her arrow to the apple on the table and made it right in the middle of the apple which left the career tributes shocked and staring at her. Then she left. Next day she was waiting nervously for the score. Ends up, she got the highest score! They ended up liking her attitude. Then after all the interviews, they were ready to go to the arena and start the Hunger Games. They found out the arena took place at a place where they sloughter pigs. Though they basically made it look like a forest. When they went in they were placed on a silver platform waiting for the horn to play which meant the games started. Though infront of them, a few feet away, were a bunch of stuff to survive. When the horn rang, everyone started killing eachother over everything! Though Katniss managed to get some things. Though that's when all the action started! I will not say everything that happened because I don't want to spoil it but it was really good. Though it was so suprising when the host announced that a whole tribute can come back together and not just one single person! Though the one twist Peeta and Katniss had to do was that they had to pretend they were in love to get a lot of sponsors. Its gets suspenseful every chapter. I basically cried when I was reading! Though I am giving part of the end away… They won! But there is more after that! So if you love drama and action then read this book cause it awesome!

The Golden Compass: His Dark Material

I read The Golden Compass:His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. I chose this book because some of my friends have told me that it is a really good book. This book is mostly about a girl named Lyra who lives in a college and how her life changes when a woman named Mrs.Coulter comes and takes her to London. Later on, Lyra finds out that Mrs.Coulter was part of a community where they take childern away from their families. Lyra and her old friends called them the "Gobblers". Lyra runs away as far as she can and escapes from Mrs.Coulter. Then a family of gyptians take her in, as their own family member. Later, the family go to a meeting with their group leader, to talk about the Gobblers and how lots of their childern have gone missing. Lyra goes on an adventure to find the childern and bring them back to their original families.

A quote that is a major coflict in my book is: "Lord Faa and Farder Corman have gone to try and get your armor for you,"she said.(The Golden Compass:His Dark Materials, pg. 196) I chose this quote because this is the part when Lyra, Lord Faa, and Farder Corman are trying to get Iorek Byrnison's armor back from the people who stole it from him. It was hard finding the armor, beacuse the people who took it away from him hid it in their basement doing experiments on it. They need the armor back, because they are going north to find the missing childern and Lyra's father Lord Aserial who was capturied by the Bears. Without the armor the bear is not so strong, it is like his soul, but also if any trouble lies ahead he can help save them. Later in the story Iorek Byrnison needs his armor because he must fight the Bears King, and without his armor he will lose and die.

I loved the book, it was very interesting and very descriptive. This book is now one of my favorite. I am really glad I found this book. I liked it because it is about adventure and taking risks. Once you start reading it you can not put it down. Well, that is how it was for me. I recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure and fiction.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

The book I read for my book report review is Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. It is book one of the series. The author is James Patterson, one of America's favorite storytellers (he wrote many books). It's about six kids that are 98% human and 2% bird. And they can fly. They have no parents that they know. that is why they are trying to figure out if they are test tube babies or human babies. If they are human babies, they don't have any information to find them. The 6 kids are Maximum Ride (known as Max, the leader/mom) who is 14, Fang (Mr. Calm, Cool, and Controlled) who is 14, Iggy (blind, can pick locks, the best at bomb builder, and fire starter) who is 14, Nudge who is 11 (known as talk a lot),Gasman (known as Gazzy the brave little one) who is 8, and last of all Angel who is 6 years old (she can read minds). Gasman and Angel are the only blood related people of the family. Iggy went blind because the idiot scientist in the School wanted to give him night vision better with surgery- of course. The School is in Death Valley. It is more of a lab because they extract animal DNA and genetics and put it in helpless human babies. Only 2 of the hundreds of abusive experiments were a success that is known to the readers who read this extravagant book. These are the flock and Erasers. It is a funny name but once you realize what and who they are they are the worst things to the flock. Erasers are half human and live to be 6 years. The other half is wolf. They eat raw meat and want to kill Max and her flock. They have long teeth and claws and are faster than an average adult or human wrestler. They are really deadly and can kill and hurt people for no reason. Let me get to my point now; the flock is running for their lives away from the School and Erasers, for god knows what those idiot white coats (meaning: those scientists) would do to them if they Max and her family got stuck in a lab cage. These scientists gave the flock wings and assorted powers. But one white coat, Jeb, (a father of a son that got turned into an Eraser after Jeb left) felt sorry for them, and helped them go free. He disappeared from the flock's home 2 years ago. He was like a father, he taught them how to fly, self defense, and other than that, anything a normal father would do. He would give them dinner and make sure they ate 3000 calories a day (told you they are different than an average human). The reason they differ is because the flock's bones are thin, light, and still very sturdy. They have extra and strong muscles. Their heart is more efficient. And of course, they need to eat a lot. Max is the main, major character. In the beginning of the book Angel is captured by Erasers. Max, Fang, and Nudge go to the School (a bad place to go when there running away from it) to get Angel back. Along the way when they are flying (during Max's rescue mission)Max goes down and saves this girl called Ella from 3 armed teenage boys. Then when she hurts them and runs she actually got shot. She finds Ella's house and asks for help for her shot wing and shoulder. There she blurts out the secret to Ella and her mom. Iggy and Gasman are left home as they build a secret bomb and destroy the house (really dumb). Nudge and Fang go to the lake where they are supposed to wait for Max and became friends with the hawks that lived close by. Gasman and Iggy come to the lake because Erasers were covering the mountain where their house was. Then all 5 of them go off together to find Angel but get captured by Erasers. They get sent to the school. Luckily Gasman and Iggy did not get caught. But when the door opens Jeb, comes in their cage room… Max was taken to a room and Jeb told her she was supposed to save the world. Max refused the idea and when the white coats came to tell they herded all the doggy crates outside. Ari (son of Jeb) continuously kicked Max's crate until it tips over. Max is so close to Angel's crate that Max managed to unlatch Angel. She flew away as ordered. Then as if a big gray storm cloud came Max knew they were the hawks led by Iggy and Gasman. There was a bloody scene, the hawks and the flock battering up the white coats and Erasers. Max somehow broke free and undid the latches of Fang and Nudge. From the corner of her eye, Max saw Angel to weak to run as she collapsed into a crawl as 2 white coats chased after her. Max got there first and savagely hurt them. Then she threw Angel up into the air. Angel unfurled her wings just in time and shot up in the air, flying. Meanwhile, Fang was boiling with anger/fury, eyes cold with lots of determination. He punched a white coat and the scientist eyes rolled back. Iggy signaled that the battle was over and the hawks returned to the sky. As they left they felt a great wave of relief—School is out—Forever! But Jeb called out Max's name and yelled that it was all a test. He was mingled with the huge crowd and his coat was bloody. Max knew it he got in a battle with a hawk. Max thought about him—he taught her almost everything she knew, comforted her, cheered her on, and the closet guardian she had in her life. I don't think so, she thought to herself. After all, Jeb became a white coat again. He was evil now. The one person she could trust became an evil white coat. After a whole flying she suddenly had a brain attack/stroke. Fang swooped down to her aid. He carried her until Max found her head again. Fang landed. They set up a camp and started a fire. 20 minutes later they explored the limits for something that could be cooked on a stick. They ate up quickly, before it got cold. Then Angel said she heard that they were human babies. And maybe, they still had human parents still alive. She said the information was in a New York. The ending is too good for me to reveal as they go to New York to get info to find their parents data/location. I know it is really confusing and a lot to take in—but the book and Mr. Patterson explains it a lot better.

"The six of us were homeless, aimless, on the run --- and might be for the rest of our lives, however long or short they might be." (Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, pg. 215) This book as I've already told you is about 6 kids running away from the School. The Erasers keep on tracking them down. In New York, Max, meets one of her many enemies, Ari. The major conflict is when Ari and Max get in a final showdown. They both get nasty bruises and cuts during the fight. Bones will crack as well. One will only remain standing, and the other one will die. They are both heavy fighters, strong and really powerful. It was not just fighting either, they told each other many nasty things that were heart breaking/sickening. They don't know that inside themselves they actually cared for one another but they don't know that is what they are actually thinking that.

Even though it is around 422 pages it goes by a bit to fast. You don't want it to stop- it is that phenomenal. I chose this book because when I heard that it was about 6 kids engineered to fly, I decided I had to read it! Don't get me wrong that I'm a picky reader or anything, 'cause I LOVE reading—a lot! I read all the books in the series right after I finished book one. I love all the characters ecpecially Max. They are probably the best books I have read so far. You just zip through the pages. I also would not recommend it to anyone who: does not like blood, killing, or/and pain (i.e. punching, kicking). If you really like romance don't read it--- there is only one kiss that lasted 1.7 seconds. There are funny scenes. I would recommend it to anyone who is ready to come along the ride. I really loved this book and would recommend it to people who also enjoy nonstop action, mystery, and suspense. These pages really do fly, so strap up for the ride, Maximum Ride.

The book I read is called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book is about a 16 year old
old girl named Katniss living in a country named Panem.Panem is the ruins of North America in
the future. There are 12 districts in Panem including the Capitol that rules the districts.Every year
the Capitol has somthing called The Hunger Games .The Hunger Games is were all of the
districts fight each other for survival and who ever wins gets food for thier district. The Capitol
makes you send a boy and a girl from each district from 12-18 years of age.The Hunger Games
were made to remind the districts never to go against the Capitol again, therefore they made
The Hunger Games as punishment to the districts.Katniss lives in district 12(which is kind of
poor)where she hunts animals in the woods(which is illegal)for food for her family.Katniss has
a 12 year old sister named Prim and a mother. Her dad died by an explosion that happened
when he was in a mine.It ends up happening that Prim gets chosen to be in The Hunger Games.

this book becuase when i read the summary of it I just couldn't deny reading it.I mean it has
romance, action, adventure, suspence, and survival you just can't put this book down.
A quote from the book that shows Katniss' major conflict is when she says " I twist and scuttle
backwards on my hands and feet, shrieking, trying to remove myself from the horror."This part
is when Katniss is in the The Hunger Games(in the woods)and her knee got hit by a fire ball.
Her knee is scorching with pain as she tries to get away from the wall of fire that throws the
the fireballs. When she gets to water she puts her knee in it,it soothes the pain from the knee
thats bloody. She learned to put water on watever part of her body was burned when she
used to make fire in the fireplace for warmth.
Honestly I loved this book I couldn't put this book down. The Hunger Games leaves readers hungry
for more. This book has a lot of suspence, it keeps readers wondering.I would recommend

In the summer he goes and visits his mom and goes to stay at his summer cabbin with her.

wrong.

Wrinkle In Time

I chose this book The Wrinkle In Time because first of all when i looked at the cover it looked pretty cool and exciting. Second of all i looked at the description on the back of the book made this Sci-Fi Adventure even better which made me choose this book. The Wrinkle In Time is about these 3 children (Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin) and they went off to an adventure to save there father who has suddenly dissapeared. They go through many hardships which was pretty amazing. The setting was also amazing for example camozat. This setting is like a neighborhood but the kids and familys do things always the same and they always seem to be dull and boring. So Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace travel through the neighborhood to get to there destination which is pretty much on the way to save there father. When they reach there destination they got trapped by these people who were like agents so they had to fight through them. So the main reason is that they went through many hardships just to save Meg/Charles Wallace father.

"It seemed to travel with her, to sweep her aloft in the power of song, so that she was moving in glory among the stars, and for a moment she, too, felt that the words Darkness and Light had no meaning, and only this melody was real."

I Love this book because it was a fantasy adventure action book and those are my favorite kinds of books. This book is so interesting you cant expect anything thats going to happen which was cool because for me i could predict the next thing that is going to happen which made the book really weird for me but for the Wrinkle In Time i cant predict the next thing to happen because its so unexpected which makes this book so lovable. I would recommend this book to whoever like sci-fi action adventures.

The Hunger Games

I chose the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, because the plot of the book sounded very interesting to me. This book is about a country called Panem , which is what is left of North America after a war. Panem is broken up into 12 districts. You follow the journey of a 16 year old girl named Katniss living in district 12 (a mostly poor district). She has struggles to support her mother and 12 year old sister Prim, after her father dies. She has to hunt (which is illegal) to support her family. When the annual reaping comes along that's when she really has to fight for her life. Children from the ages of 12 to 18 are entered into a drawing that will determine which boy and girl compete in The Hunger Games. In The Hunger Games the 24 kids chosen, fight in a battle against each other, last one standing keeps their life and gets more food for their district. Prim gets chosen in the drawing, but Katniss steps up as a loving sister to take her place. Katniss then goes on a journey where there is survival, romance, and many other hardships.
A quote that shows Katniss's major conflict is: "Every sense I have goes into overdrive as the need to survive takes over." (The Hunger Games ,pg.175). Katniss has to put all her effort into surviving. Any sudden motion can bring death. Her mind has to be alert at all times. She also has to provide herself with food and water. There is major stress put on her, knowing she could die at any moment. She has to be ready to move if she spots an enemy. Katniss is in the wild all on her own, and as more and more people die, it makes it harder to hide. The girl has to plan every move with care. She wants to make it back home to her sister and mother, so winning the games is very important.
I loved The Hunger Games because it was so exciting. The book was very surprising and it was hard for me to put it down. It combined action with a bit of romance. You fall in love with the book in the first chapter. It doesn't take long for the action to start. I wold recommend this book to anyone who loves an action packed page turner. If you like exciting books that are fiction you will love The Hunger Games.

Eldest:Book Two of the Inheritance Cycle

Fantasy, Dragons, Science Fiction(Sci-Fi)

Eldest is a book written by Christopher Paolini and is the sequel to the book Eragon. The book Eldest starts from where an after attack of horrible monsters, called Urgals, had killed the leader of Farthen Dur, Ajihad, which left Eragon to follow Ajihad's last request. His request applies that Eragon should protect the Varden from falling and that Eragon should continue his journey into Du Weldenvarden where he'll have to train with the elves in Ellesmera. After Ajihad's funeral, his daughter, Nasuada had then taken the throne. She has told Eragon of their plan to move over to Surda and lure the empire over there to a war. She then gives Eragon one more quest, then he leaves for Tarnag with Arya, Saphira, and Orik...
Meanwhile, back at Carvahall, Eragon's old friend, Roran, gets into trouble as Galbatorix sends in Ra'zac and soldiers there to retrieve more information about Eragon. Roran then hides out in the Spine for safety until the intruders leave. But they never left, so there's a chance that the citizens would just turn Roran in instead of just creating a war. So he and his friends make plans to get rid of them without having to deal with them over and over again!
So, Eragon has to travel onto Tarnag, and then move forward to Hedarth, and into Du Weldenvarden so that he could continue his journey onto Ellesmera to train for the battle in Surda. He just has to keep his profile low from the empire and continue his quest without getting into more danger...

the titans curse

I read the book The Titans Curse from the series Percy Jackson and The Olympians. I chose this book because it looked very interesting and was part of the series I am already reading. This book is mostly about Percy Jackson and his friends going on a quest to save Artemis the hunt goddess. Percy lost her friend Annabeth who has been captured along with Artemis. In addition, they must find out what the doomsday monster is before winter solstice ends because Annabeth and Artemis have been captured by it.

"And for your sixteenth birthday you will overthrow Olympus" (The Titans Curse, pg.233). This quote is talking about Thalia the daughter of Zeus. It explains that Thalia is turning sixteen in two days and in the prophecy it says that the son or daughter of the big three who reaches age sixteen first will have the power to destroy Olympus or save Olympus from the titan lord Kronos. The titan lord is trying to trick Thalia into helping him destroy mount Olympus.

I like this book in every way because it had many action sequences and was very interesting. I also enjoyed the book because was well written and explained everything very thoroughly. I would recommend this book to readers who like science fiction and Greek mythology. Also, I would recommend this book to people who already know a little about Greek mythology.
