The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
English, Period 4

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
I selected The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate Di Camillo, because I read and enjoyed The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate Di Camillo, and wanted to read another one of her books.
Edward Tulane is a porcelain rabbit who was very happy because he was owned by a little girl Abilene. Abilene loved him to pieces, and treated him as though he was a real rabbit. They were both as happy as can be until one day Edward was lost. Edward goes on an amazing journey to many different places—from deep in the ocean to hobo campsite, and even to an ailing girl's bedside. It teaches you that no matter what happens in your life, there will always be at least one person who loves you. It also makes you think about every day situations in a different way then you are used to thinking about them.
One of the lessons Edward learns, and the author imparts to the reader, is to keep your heart open. "Someone will come. Someone will come for you, but first you must open your heart." These words play over and over in Edward's head. They are the moral of the story.
I rate this book ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ based on the following rating system:
♥ Boring
♥ ♥ Not the Best
♥ ♥ ♥ Interesting
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Fun to Read
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Can't put it Down
I recommend this book to everyone ten years and older. It is interesting, exciting, makes you think. There are some emotionally depressing parts in the book, however, and anyone who may be bothered by that should not read the book.

A Child Called "It"
By: Dave Pelzer
The Title of this story is A Child Called "It" is written by Dave Pelzer. So after listening it from my friend talking about the book I got really intrested in the book and decided to get it and read it for myself.
There is this boy named Dave, him and his family were a very happy and loving family. His dad was a firefighter and his mom was a stay at home parent taking care of Dave and his brothers. But after his dad dedicated more of his time to his job everything changed. His mom became and alcoholic, but not only did she become alcoholic she became abusive but not only brutally beating him but mentally to.Dave would go days without eating, bathing and his mom would make him not only do house choirs but sleep in the basement with nothing to cover himself but newspaper.Whenever Dave would be hungry he would get food from the trash. But his mom would always find out for some reason and make him throw it up.
The most interesting thing Dave's mom did was called her own son "It".I think that was really disrespectful to Dave only if she would understand. The whole idea of his mom calling him it means so much in this story because it shows how Dave's life is and how he suffers to live and not stay hungry and die.
If I can rate this book from 1-5 five being the highest, I would probably rate it at a 5 its really a captivating and emotional book since its based on a true story.
MY RATING:
I would recommend this book to everyone who like sad stories or even stories based on real life events.I believe this story will leave you speechless. It will make you appreciate life itself but better yet your family.I don't want to ruin the ending but you have to get this book and read it.
Stop Pretending
Anna English Period 6 September 13, 2009 The title of the book I selected is Stop Pretending by Sonya Sones. I found out about this book in the 6th grade when my English teacher read it to the class. What I like about the book is the way the author wrote it because she makes everything look more realistic compared different books I've read. Another thing I like about this book is that the writing in the book is so powerful that you could really understand the perspective of the author's point of view. This is a book I could read over and over and not put down until it's finished. Plus this is a true storey based on what happened to Sonya Sones, which is cool because it would take a lot of courage to write a book like this. The book is about how the character's older sister went crazy and then slowly everything was coming apart in her life. She felt like she lost her sister who was her best friend and she thought nothing could take that from her. Slowly everything was worsening. Her family was tearing apart, and there is a feeling like you can go to no one for help or to have a normal conversation. This book is basically about how Sonya deals with life when it gets really hard and the feeling of the world being against you is very often being felt. My favorite quote was:"One day he/she was ……………… the next he/she was a stranger." I chose this quote because it relates to real life a lot. In the real world you always have to be careful of who you trust because people do change. Whether it's a back-stabbing friend or in this case (in the story) how her family changed after the mental breakdown. Then more people changed in her world. Sometimes when people change the situation can result into disaster. I would rate this book four out of five golden pens. I chose golden pens because the book is written in poems and it's a true story of what happened to the writer. The reason I didn't give the book 100% is because nothing is perfect and everything has its flaws. Even though this was an incredible book. This is a book that could be read over and over again because of the powerful text and how the book puts you in the perspective of Sonya Sones. I would recommend this book to an audience of 11 years and up because this book really shows things that can happen in life and it could freak out 5th graders and I don't think fourth graders would really understand a lot of things that are going on. This book should be read for three reasons: this book shows you how everything could change and your world could be hanging by a thread, there are many things to relate to in this book, once you start reading you don't wan to put it down. The book isn't very long but you can learn so much from just reading it. In conclusion this is a four out of fie golden pens book and I recommend this to an audience of 11+. I think everyone should really give it a chance to understand what I'm talking about. |

Evermore
Evermore
The book I read was Evermore by Alyson Noel. I selected this book when looking for a book to read while waiting for the next House of Night book to come out. It was recommended to me by one of the employees of Barnes and Noble. The cover was unusual and the synopsis on the back of the book really pulled me in, so I decided to buy it.
The main character is named Ever. Her family died in a car accident and somehow she lived. The repercussion of this travesty was that she could see auras, read minds, and with the simple touch she can read the persons entire history. When she goes to school one day she meets a boy. His name is Damen. The reason she realized him is because of his perfect beauty and the fact that he had no aura. Whenever she touches him, her body tingles and he is the only one she can focus on, everything else just stops and goes away. This book refers to common themes in a teenagers' life, as in crushes and first love. Whether you realize it or not, this book entices you and changes your entire idea about how you felt or will feel when that day comes where you meet someone special.
The quote I chose from Evermore is, "'I don't want to talk about it,' I say, blinking at the water globes that are now red and forming into a tulip.
'What do you want to talk about?' he whispers, gazing at me with those eyes, two infinite pools luring me in.
'I don't want to talk,' I whisper, holding my breath as his lips met mine." This quote says a lot about the book. The reason I chose this quote was because of their love in the story. Ever and Damen are truly in love. The second reason is because of the tulip they mentioned. Damen periodically gives Ever red tulips. They appear out of thin air, on paper, and now an image of glowing light bulbs floating in water. Later in the book Ever finds out that red tulips symbolize ever-dieing love or affection. It is interesting how Damen shows his love for her in so many ways. It is truly sweet.
I would rate this book in red tulips to show how much I love this book and also to symbolize the love in the book. I would give this book 4 out of 5 red tulips. It was an amazing book. It was well written and painted an interesting picture. The meaning was clear and the ending, enticing. I loved this book.
I would recommend this book to all teenagers. It shows how we see love at this age, specifically our first crushes. It goes through emotional rollercoaster during the duration of the book that any teen would find interesting. It also shows others that when something bad happens, you can always push through. I would not recommend this to children younger than 11. This book has references to underage drinking. It truly is an amazing book.

Flowers for Algernon
and pathos in the human mind. I also liked that the story was in a 1st person biography. The book
was mostly about a retarded adult named Charlie Gordon. He goes to a University for retarded adults.
He is used by some psychiatrists who boost his IQ from a 68 to a complete genius.
"I told dr Strauss and prof Numer I cant rite good but he says it dont matter he says I should rite
just as I talk and like I rite compushishens in mis Kinnians class at the beekmin collidge centerr for retarted adults where I go 3 times a week on my time off." ( Flowers for Algernon, pg. 1) I think this quote explains the conflict in the book because the conflict is that Charlie is retarded but wants to be smart. He wants to read and write but he can't. He's retarded but has great motivation. A good example is the time when he was in the lab and was trying desperately to compete with a mouse who already had the operation to be gifted. He tried it 10 times and Algernon always won.
I adored this book because it was really interesting to read about someone's life and watch them progress. I felt like I was almost experiencing his life since it was written from his point of view. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in psychology, and if you don't like fairy tales this book is for you.

moving his head and he cut him in the back of his head. Charlie started remembering about the past how his mother was yelling in the middle of the night. She was Matt I can't live with him anymore, Norma [Charlie's little sister] won't be normal with him. Send him to Warren State Home or I will kill him! Maybe we should talk about this later it is late. No take him away now! I loved this this book it is amazing! I recommend this book for people who like science fiction. This book has to be on your book list, because it has romance, suspense, and a couple of tragedies. But every kid should read

Things Not Seen
"Now you're back to school and friends and girls and prom and college and everything, you're back and I'm not." (Things Not Seen, pg. 248) This quote describes how much Alicia really liked having a friend like Bobby. She really missed having a normal life. When she met Bobby she was happy because she had a problem and so did he. She figured that she could help Bobby and she thought that was a nice change. She was tired of being the girl people always felt sorry for and avoided.
I really loved this book! It kept me entertained and interested the whole way through. I loved Andrew Clement's style of writing. I especially loved Alicia's character. I also enjoyed the drama and the story line of this book! I would definitely recommend this book to anybody, but especially people who love a sweet ending. Things Not Seen should be at the top of your to do list!

Night by Elie Wiesel
The book I decided to read in the past days was Night by Elie Wiesel. I chose this book because it was really interesting and fascinating. I picked this book out randomly. I started to read the book and it caught my attention. Then, I decided to do a little research on the author, Elie Wiesel. I understood the book better after reading the author's biography. The book Night was based on Elie Wiesel's life. The book kept getting more interesting as I kept reading further and further. This book builds up suspense and keeps you waiting until the next thing happens. This book was so great that I am going to begin to read the other great books he made. I will soon start to read The Forgotten by Elie Wiesel.
The book is mainly about a boy and his father's story as they go threw humiliation, torture, and a concentration camp. The main character is the boy, Eliezer. The boy is Jewish and his father, which his name is not mentioned in the book, is a Jewish leader. It doesn't say he is a rabbi ,though. The boy was around during the Holocaust. The German officials capture all the jews in the small town of Transylvania. Then, they seperate the useless and burn them. The rest of them go to concentration camp in Buchenwald. Eliezer doesn't suffer as much as the father, but Eliezer still suffers with the pain of his father in his heart. Eliezers father soon becomes weak and sick. Eliezer feels his pain, but he can't do anything about it. All he can do is look-out for himself and live through all the pain and torture of the Germans.
"Eliezer...Eliezer..tell them not to hit me...I haven't done anything...Why do they keep hitting me?" This is the quote I used. It was said by Eliezer's father. Eliezer's father was very sick at the time and most of the people who were at the camp took advantage of him. They beat him with what ever they had at hand. They even stole the little food they gave him. Eliezer wanted to do something, but couldn't. His father was being abused in front of Eliezer's face, and Eliezer could only watch in horror. Eliezer was dissapointed of himself. He wished he could do something. This was the most tragic event in Eliezer's life.

I made a rating system for this book. I used moons as my rating sytem because of the title of the book, Night. I thought of two other rating systems, but they weren't good. I would rate my book 4 out of 5. This book had an amazing, real, and thorough story. It was a great story, but it lacked some enthusiasm. I believe it was because of the type of story. It still made a great must read book. It is a great novel.
I recommend this book to people from their teens to the senior age. This is a great book to catch up on some history. You learn a lot on how to survive in times of crisis. This book also inspires you in many ways, to keep heading to your goal even though you have to pass through obstacles. Another thing is, always be patient something good may come out. This book would be perfect for seniors who lived around that time and for others who would like to learn some History trivia.
